More than twenty years in the Occupational Safety and Health field; extensive experience in chemical engineering operations and manufacturing, and in safety and health training.


SAMPLE ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Developed, coordinated, implemented and administered safety and health program policies and procedures for 35,000-employee Federal agency; provided guidance, consultation and training within the agency, to other Federal agencies, and to other public and private sector organizations.

Lowered ICI Paints / Glidden San Francisco OSHA Recordable Injuries from 13 in 1992 to 1 in 1995.

Developed and presented training based on recognized expertise in hearing protection; respiratory protection ; asbestos; PCB's; low-voltage electrical safety; fall protection; scaffold safety; aerial lift safety; forklift safety; machine guarding; electrostatic discharge safety; accident investigation; West Nile Virus; Pandemic Influenza; local, state and Federal regulatory compliance and numerous other safety and health topics, including production of video presentations on safety and health topics. Training presented in Washington DC, throughout Silicon Valley, Cape Canaveral FL, UC Santa Cruz Santa Clara Extension, Stanford University, UC Berkeley, etc.

Conducted workplace inspections for compliance with OSHA, Cal-OSHA and other regulatory requirements; prepared detailed reports, remediation plans, emergency contingency plans, Injury and Illness Prevention Plans (IIPP's) and other documentation.

Consultant and contributor to Cal/OSHA for their Confined Space Guidebook (1998), Hazard Communication Guidebook (2000) and Ergonomic Guidelines for Manual Material Handling (2007). Technical Expert on Cal/OSHA's Title 8 Reform Project. Developed Cal/OSHA's "Safety and Health Training and Instruction Requirements" website.

Conducted Industrial Hygiene sampling and studies, and developed remediation programs involving PCB's, asbestos, noise, heat stress, air / water contaminants, biologicals, indoor air quality, and numerous other Industrial Hygiene problems.

Former Chairman, Washington DC Federal Safety & Health Council; active in professional societies such as American Society of Safety Engineers (elected a member in 1980), Bay Area Environmental Safety Group (I'm founding WebMaster of the BAESG Website, http://www.baesg.org; I was named a Life Member in 2005); member, Occupational Safety and Health Curriculum Advisory Committee, Northern Virginia Community College, 1983-1984; public speaker on safety issues at national annual conventions of the American Chemical Society (presented a paper on Laboratory Safety), American Society of Mechanical Engineers (presented a paper "Mission Impossible? Protecting the Safety and Health of Public Employees"), etc., and at professional society meetings such as the Public Agency Safety Management Association, American Water Works Association, California Water Environment Association, etc. Member for 15 years of Supervisory Committee and currently Chairman of the Board of Directors of a 3000-member $25 million Federal Credit Union.
