I'm an occupational health and safety expert, trainer and consultant, employed as Safety Program Administrator at the Santa Clara Valley Water District in San Jose, CA, since 2003. For those interested in safety, here's a safety links web page which I developed (starting in 1996!) and maintain (although not as assiduously as I used to...), listing safety, health and environmental information resources on the internet.

Among the things I know how to do are:
prepare and conduct training, following needs analysis and discussions with involved parties (see my Cal/OSHA Required Training web page, which I started in 1998 and which Cal/OSHA finally picked up (without attribution) August 2005)
conduct inspections and audits for compliance with Cal/OSHA (and OSHA) regulations (partially based on my five years as a Federal Occupational Safety and Health Inspector), and with other standards
prepare detailed reports on inspection and audit findings, including specific violations and remediation program elements
develop Injury and Illness Prevention Programs (IIPPs) in compliance with (California's) SB 198, as implemented in 8 CCR 3203, as well as develop all the subsidiary programs as required, such as Hazard Communication, Confined Space, etc.

I have a number of interests and hobbies: I own two Honda Civic Hybrid cars (actually, I own one and my wife owns one...and our daughter owns one, too) that get 50 miles per gallon - I had a blog for years on http://www.hybridcars.com (before they stopped doing blogs); I have been interested in cacti and succulents since moving to California in 1984; I've had a lifelong interest in genealogy (I've put together a fairly complex genealogy web page); birdwatching, nature studies and other outdoor activities, including kayaking and bicycling; woodworking and other crafts; personal computer use (now including a Palm Treo 680 SmartPhone (my fifth Palm Pilot)); searching for Mersenne Primes; FRACTINT, the fractal generating freeware; and the wonderful sport of Googlewhacking - here are a few of the over a thousand wordpairs I have whacked.

I've gotten an 8-Gallon pin for whole blood and platelet pheresis donations with the American Red Cross; I'm a registered bone-marrow donor with the Red Cross and a registered brain donor with the National Neurological Research Bank (check out my Organ Donor web page).
I was a member of the Supervisory Committee of a 3,000-member / $25 million Federal Credit Union for 14 years; I was on the Board of Directors for 6 years, including a couple of years as Chairman of the Board of Directors until we merged with a much larger credit union.
I'm a former member of the Board of Directors of the Morgan Hill Chamber of Commerce.
I'm a former member of the Board of Directors of the Cactus and Succulent Society of San Jose.
I've been a member for years of the Bay Area Environmental Safety Group (BAESG) - I was on the Board of Directors for seven years, and was voted a Lifetime Member in 2005; I founded the BAESG's website in 1996 and after seven years of webmastering turned it over to another member for day-to-day operation.
I was given the "Safety Professional of the Year" award by the Safety Center, Incorporated, in Sacramento, CA January 23, 2008
I am a Wikipedia editor - in addition to random editing, I have originated numerous articles on such topics as the succulent plant Dudleya_setchellii and the Santa Clara Valley Water District.
